Our Community
The Township of Warwick is one of eleven municipalities within the County of Lambton. Approximately five years ago, the Township was formed through the amalgamation of the Village of Watford and the Township of Warwick. The community has a population of approximately 4,000 individuals, with 1,700 residents in the urban area of Watford and the other residents living throughout the rural and agricultural areas. For the last number of years, the municipality has been working diligently to attract industrial and commercial activity in order to diversify the local economic base; to create jobs; to stabilize the residential levels of the community and to create new opportunities and growth perspectives. Warwick Township is bisected by the 4-lane Provincial Highway 402 - the major transportation artery that runs eastward from the Ontario-Michigan border and connects with Highway 401, known as "Ontario's Main Street". To the west, via the Twin International Bluewater Bridge, Highway 402 connects directly with the Interstate 94/69/75 network in Michigan. The Bridge is the fastest-growing commercial crossing in Canada. Rail Service in Sarnia-Lambton is provided by both CN Rail and CSX Transportation, which runs directly through the municipality. Deep port facilities accommodating domestic and international shipping are available at the Port of Sarnia, which has direct access to the St. Lawrence Seaway. Directly adjacent to Highway 402, Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport offers cargo and daily passenger service. Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which offers service to major U.S. and international destinations, is just over an hours drive away. To the east, London International Airport is just over a half-hours drive from Warwick Township. Service is offered to both Canadian and U.S. destinations.
Further information on the municipality's history and who we are will be released during the year. |
