Warwick Township Calls Upon Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Candidates to Address Critical Local Issues

Warwick Township, Ontario – With the upcoming by-election on May 2nd to elect a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, Warwick Township is urging all candidates to prioritize addressing pressing local concerns, particularly regarding natural gas access and the proposed expansion at Twin Creeks Landfill.

The Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP seat has remained vacant since September 2022, leaving Warwick Township and several other municipalities in the riding without representation at Queen’s Park for six months. As a result, important local issues and concerns have not received the attention they deserve from provincial authorities.

Mayor Todd Case of Warwick Township emphasized the significance of these issues, stating, “The issues of natural gas access in rural Ontario and the proposed expansion of Twin Creeks Landfill are of critical importance to Warwick Township. We expect the MPP candidates to address these issues during the campaign period.”

Warwick Township is posing two primary questions to all MPP candidates and calls upon them to make firm commitments regarding these key issues during the campaign process:

Natural Gas Expansion: Are you in favor of Natural Gas expansion in rural Ontario, which would allow affordable energy to support our agricultural sector, and if elected, will you commit to expanding natural gas in rural municipalities such as the Township of Warwick?

Environmental Assessment for Twin Creeks Landfill: If elected, will you commit to ensuring a full Environmental Assessment (EA) review process for the Twin Creeks Landfill in Watford?

Warwick Township acknowledges the exemplary support received from MPP Bob Bailey for Sarnia-Lambton during the vacancy of the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP seat. Mayor Case expressed, "Warwick Township is very appreciative of his support to go above and beyond during this challenging period."
